Homework Assignments’ Difference in U.S. & China

Just come back from Spring Break vacation,  I found myself totally be Untitledinvolved in different kinds of homework. Too much! This semester I choosed four MBA courses which really bring a lot of homework for me and I feel very big pressure. On one hand, English is not my native language, therefore I have to cost a lot of time on reading texts and cases and also writing paperwork; On the other hand, this is my first time to live independently, I have to learn how to buy food? how to feed myself? and how to live? All of these issues also cost a lot of time. Anyway, this is my own choice, I have to face it.

Come back talking about homework assignments, I found big difference of the model in U.S. and in China. What’s the difference? Actually, during the class in U.S., the professor will not offer students abundant amount of knowledge and information. They focus more on practice. The homework will cover a lot of paperwork, something need students’ deliberate thought.

In contrast, in China, the professor will offer different kinds of knowledge and can talk each issue very deeply. But the homework assignments seems a little bit less than U.S.’s. Under such kind of model, students can feel learn a lot during class. But in U.S., students maybe feel they can master a lot of knowledge though finishing homework assignments, after class.

In my opinion, both two models have its own benefit and weakness. The U.S. model seems to help students to strengthen their ability to learn knowledge independently and creatively. You can decide by yourself whether you want to learn more and deeply. The Chinese model seems more work for the professor, students can get more heuristic information.

But one thing is definitely for sure, you can master the knowledge well and steadily only through abundant amount of exercises.
